Below are notes to a sermon preached Sunday evening, February 08, 2004, at Gospel Light Baptist Church, Albany, Georgia.
THE BATTLEFIELD OF FINANCES
Scripture Reading: Luke 16:1-14
Text: Luke 16:11
Luke 16:11 If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?
Introduction: PREPARE FOR WAR IN 2004! Christians are under attack, and many of them do not even know it! Forces are at work, endeavoring to undermine the things of God in the lives of people.
One of the greatest areas of spiritual warfare is that of FINANCES.
The Bible says a lot about money. The word
money occurs in 123 verses
rich in 80
riches in 95
mammon in 4
treasure in 35
treasures in 55
poor in 197 verses
poverty in 15 verses
I want to point out to you that one of the great arenas of Christian warfare in America is:
THE BATTLEFIELD OF FINANCES
Three big dangers on The Battlefield of Finances
I. FONDNESS FOR MONEY
1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
A. Don’t seek it
1. Proverbs 23:4-5 Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom. 5 Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.
B. Don’t sacrifice better things in order to get it
1. Proverbs 28:6 Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.
2. Holiness
3. Happiness
4. Home
5. House of God
C. Don’t steal for it
1. Malachi 3 – Robbing God in tithes and offerings
II. FOOLISHNESS WITH MONEY
Luke 12:19-20 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. 20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
A. In saving money
1. Matthew 6:19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
B. In spending money
1. Proverbs 21:20 There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.
III. FAITH IN MONEY
1 Timothy 6:17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
A. For salvation
B. For supply
C. For security
D. For satisfaction
