THE HANDS OF JESUS
By Michael D. O’Neal Pastor, Gospel Light Baptist Church Albany, Georgia
Scripture Reading: Luke 24:36-45
Text: Luke 24:40
Luke 24:40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.
Introduction: Jesus, in His infallible proofs spoken of in Acts 1:3 (called something less than “infallible” in most of the new “versions” – perversions – of the Bible), showed the disciples His hands and His feet.
Tonight I want us to consider some things about the hands of our precious Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
I. THE HANDS OF JESUS ARE SUPPLYING HANDS
Mark 8:25 After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.
A. They supplied sight for the eyes
B. They supplied sound for the ears
C. They supplied supper for the hungry multitudes
D. They supplied strength for the weak (lame, withered hand)
II. THE HANDS OF JESUS ARE SINLESS HANDS
Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
A. They never stole
B. They never slapped a weaker person
C. They never selected a wicked activity
1. Drinking liquor
2. Smoking
3. Shooting dope
4. Playing cards
5. Throwing dice
6. Buying pornography
III. THE HANDS OF JESUS ARE STRONG HANDS
John 10:27-28 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
A. Strong in saving us from damnation
B. Strong in securing us from the devil
C. Strong in steering us through dark ages
IV. THE HANDS OF JESUS ARE SCARRED HANDS
Zechariah 13:6 And one shall say unto him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.
Psalms 22:16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.
A. They were scarred in supreme love
B. They were scarred in shame – shame for the human race in murdering God’s Son
C. They were scarred in saving sinners
1. The scripture indicates that those scars are in His glorified body, visible at the Second Advent, perhaps a reminder through eternity of God’s redemption for sinners!
V. THE HANDS OF JESUS ARE STRETCHED FORTH HANDS
Romans 10:21 But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.
A. Stretched forth to a wicked nation – Israel (Matthew 23:37)
B. Stretched forth to the wayward Christian, inviting him to come home (2 Corinthians 6:14-18)
C. Stretched forth to the world of unbelievers (Revelation. 22:17)
I shall know Him, I shall know Him,
When redeemed by His side I shall stand.
I shall know Him, I shall know Him,
By the print of the nails in His hand!
