The Inner Veil Of The Tabernacle

Below are notes to a sermon preached Sunday evening, Nov. 14, 2004, at Gospel Light Baptist Church, Albany, Georgia.

THE INNER VEIL OF THE TABERNACLE
By Michael D. O’Neal     Pastor, Gospel Light Baptist Church     Albany, Georgia

Scripture Reading: Exodus 26:31-35

Text: Exodus 26:31

Exodus 26:31 And thou shalt make a vail of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen of cunning work: with cherubims shall it be made:

Introduction: I have pointed out earlier, the tabernacle is one of the types, or prophetic pictures, in the Old Testament of the Lord Jesus Christ and salvation through Him.

God commanded Moses:

Exodus 25:8 And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them.

Now, notice the words, MADE and DWELT in the following verse, where the Bible says of Jesus:

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth.

“and dwelt among us.”

The tabernacle was made for God to dwell among men. Jesus Christ was “made flesh” in John 1:14 “and dwelt among us.”

This is definitely another of those Old Testament passages that tells us of Jesus, as Jesus said:

John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

Jesus was talking about the Old Testament scriptures, and more specifically, the writings of Moses in Gen. – Deut.:

John 5:46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me.

I believe one of the writings that testify of Jesus in the books of Moses is the passage before us about the tabernacle and its framework.

Tonight we are going to look at

THE INNER VEIL OF THE TABERNACLE

and look for JESUS.

First, notice:

I. THE RESTRICTION OF THE VEIL

Exodus 26:33 And thou shalt hang up the vail under the taches, that thou mayest bring in thither within the vail the ark of the testimony: and the vail shall divide unto you between the holy place and the most holy.

Hebrews 9:7 But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people: .

A. It divided

B. It distinguished

C. It defended

II. THE REQUIREMENT OF THE VEIL (BLOOD)

Exodus 26:33 And thou shalt hang up the vail under the taches, that thou mayest bring in thither within the vail the ark of the testimony: and the vail shall divide unto you between the holy place and the most holy.

A. The slaying of the beast

B. The shedding of the blood

C. The sprinkling of the blood

III. THE REMOVAL OF THE VEIL

Matthew 27:50-51 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. 51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

At the time of this great rending or tearing:

A. The sun was removed

B. The surface was rocked

C. The separation was rent in two

D. The Savior was redeeming us!

IV. THE REPLACEMENT OF THE VEIL

Hebrews 6:19-20 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; 20 Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

Hebrews 10:20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

Jesus is the replacement for the Old Testament veil!

A. Jesus is a better avenue – a new and living way (Hebrews 10:20)

B. Jesus gives us bold access

C. Jesus gives blessed assurance

V. THE REPAIRING OF THE VEIL

Galatians 4:21 Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law?

Legalists desire to be back under and put others under the law.

Galatians 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

The law gives:

A. False security

B. Failed specifications
1. Man cannot and will not keep the law

C. Frustrated souls

On the other hand, Jesus provides:
FULL salvation
A FREE salvation and
FINISHED salvation! Praise God!
