GOD CAN DOUBLE YOUR MANNA
By Michael D. O’Neal
Pastor, Gospel Light Baptist Church

Scripture Reading: Exodus 16:14-30
Text: Exodus 16:29
Exodus 16:29 See, for that the LORD hath given you the sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.
Introduction: If anyone should know that the true God, the God of heaven and earth, is a God of miracles, Israel should have known. The nation had witnessed the many signs, wonders, and miracles that God had performed in bringing them out of Egypt. Now God supplied miraculous, supernatural bread from heaven. They called this bread, “manna,” which means, “What is it?” because they didn’t know exactly what it was.
God told them to gather the manna on six days but not to go out on the sabbath, because there would be no manna. They didn’t believe God but in their covetousness and their unbelief, they went out on the sabbath day. They were afraid they would miss out on having provision, although God had DOUBLED their manna the day before.
God was angry with them!
I believe that God is angry with Christians today who disobey God in the hope that they can get enough money to meet their needs. I want to encourage you to be obedient to God and believe that if He does cause you to miss out on earning money or gaining money by being obedient to Him, He is able to MORE than make up for your loss. My message is titled
GOD CAN DOUBLE YOUR MANNA
or
GOD CAN GIVE MANNA FOR TWO DAYS
I. GOD CAN DOUBLE YOUR MANNA WHEN YOU FREELY GIVE TITHES AND OFFERINGS
Deuteronomy 15:19 All the firstling males that come of thy herd and of thy flock thou shalt sanctify unto the LORD thy God: thou shalt do no work with the firstling of thy bullock, nor shear the firstling of thy sheep.
Malachi 3:8-10 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. 9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. 10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
In Mal. 3:8-10 we see
A. A problem
1. God’s people were robbing Him in tithes and offerings
B. A penalty – a curse
C. A promise
II. GOD CAN DOUBLE YOUR MANNA WHEN YOU FAVOR THE POOR AND NEEDY
Proverbs 19:17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
A. God regards it as a loan to Him
B. God repays it (with interest?)
1. “running over” (Lk. 6:38)
2. God uses men – “shall MEN give into your bosom”
III. GOD CAN DOUBLE YOUR MANNA WHEN YOU FURNISH YOUR FAMILY WITH GIFTS AND NECESSITIES
Matthew 7:11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
Proverbs 13:22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.
Mark 7:10-12 For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death: 11 But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free. 12 And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;
1 Timothy 5:8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
A. Spend on your spouse and
children – Mt. 7:11; Eph. 5:25
B. Save for your children
1. Proverbs 13:22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.
C. Support your parents in their old age
IV. GOD CAN DOUBLE YOUR MANNA WHEN YOU FORSAKE WICKED REVENUE
Proverbs 28:8 He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor.
Jeremiah 17:11 As the partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatcheth them not; so he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool.
A. He can supply your need
B. He can surprise you with His supply
Ephesians 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
V. GOD CAN DOUBLE YOUR MANNA WHEN YOU ARE FAITHFUL TO GOD AND HIS CHURCH
Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
A. The commandment is certain
B. The choice is clear
C. The consequences are considerable
When you choose to work and miss church:
1. You miss a spiritual meal
2. You lose the opportunity to exhort others
3. You build a habit
4. You leave a bad example for your children and other believers
5. You stunt your own growth in faith and blessing, as did the children of Israel who did not enter the Promised Land
Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Psalms 37:4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
