Scripture Reading: Job 9:13-35
Text: Job 9:33
Job 9:33 Neither is there any daysman betwixt us, that might lay his hand upon us both.
Introduction: Join me tonight as we look into the book of JOB for JESUS. Job is a book
about suffering, but it is ALSO a book about the SAVIOR.
John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
This is the kind of Bible study that the Lord Himself held after His resurrection with two of His discouraged disciples:
Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
Luke 24:44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
Luke 24:45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
Looking at our scripture for tonight we see Job lamenting his situation. He felt that he was under the chastening hand of God, but he didn’t understand why God was causing him to suffer. He had no assurance that God was hearing his prayers. In our text he said,
Job 9:33 Neither is there any daysman betwixt us, that might lay his hand upon us both.
Tonight’s message is titled,
JESUS THE DAYSMAN
I believe that this is a direct prophecy of the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.
The word “daysman” is found nowhere else in the Bible, but our text.
The word is defined in the dictionary as an umpire or arbiter; a mediator.
1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
In thinking of Jesus Christ as the daysman, consider:
I. THE TREMENDOUS NEED THAT JOB HAD
Job 16:21 O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleadeth for his neighbour!
A. For someone to hear him
1. His sorrows
2. His grief
B. For someone to help him
C. For someone to hold him (Job 9:33) in one hand and God in the other
Then consider:
II. THE TRIUMPHANT NAME THAT JESUS HAS
Philippians 3:20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:
Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Luke 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
A. The name of a man
B. The name of a mediator
C. The name of mercy “Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins”
Further, consider:
III. THE TWO NATURES THAT JESUS HAS
Philippians 2:5-8 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being
found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Hebrews 10:5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:
Matthew 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
A. He is the sinless man
1. “Behold the man”
B. He is the sovereign
Master and God (Jn. 20:28)
C. He is the sufficient mediator
Finally, consider:
IV. THE NARROW WAY THAT JESUS PROVIDED
1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
A. It is the supernatural way
B. It is the solitary way – there is none other
C. It is the sure way
Conclusion: Thank God for Jesus’s answer to not only Job’s need, but to yours and mine!
