HE MADE ALL THE VESSELS FOR THE HOUSE OF GOD

By Michael D. O’Neal
Pastor, Gospel Light Baptist Church
Albany, Georgia

Scripture Reading: 2 Chron. 4:14-22

Text: 2 Chron. 4:19

2 Chronicles 4:19 And Solomon made all the vessels that were for the house of God, the golden altar also, and the tables whereon the shewbread was set;

Introduction: Tonight I want to use our text verse to point you to Jesus, as I remind you that He said that the Old Testament was about HIM:

John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

God’s people are like vessels:

2 Corinthians 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

2 Timothy 2:20-21 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. 21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.

Acts 9:15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:

1 Thessalonians 4:4 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;

1 Peter 3:7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

Jesus is preparing vessels for the house of God ultimately to be with Him in glory!

  I. JESUS FINDS THE MATERIAL

Elihu said to Job:

Job 33:6 Behold, I am according to thy wish in God’s stead: I also am formed out of the clay.

     A. It is clay material

     B. It is corruptible material
        1. Cracks

     C. It is condemned material
        1. Cursed ground – Gen. 3
        2. Condemned already – Jn. 3:18

 II. JESUS FASHIONS THE VESSEL

Jeremiah 18:3-4 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels. 4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

     A. It was marred

     B. It is mended

     C. It is molded

     D. It is a masterpiece

III. JESUS FIRES THE VESSEL

Jeremiah 43:9 Take great stones in thine hand, and hide them in the clay in the brickkiln, which is at the entry of Pharaoh’s house in Tahpanhes, in the sight of the men of Judah;

Job 23:10 But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

1 Peter 1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

     A. The fire burns off impurities

     B. The fire builds strength

     C. The fire brightens the vessel

 IV. JESUS FINISHES THE VESSEL

2 Chronicles 5:1 Thus all the work that Solomon made for the house of the LORD was finished: and Solomon brought in all the things that David his father had dedicated; and the silver, and the gold, and all the instruments, put he among the treasures of the house of God.

Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

     A. He brushes it
        1. Final cleaning

     B. He buffs it
        1. Finest shining

     C. He blows upon it
        1. With the wind of the Holy Spirit

     D. He brings it home

Ephesians 5:25-27 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
