Lets Commit Ourselves to Good Stewardship

LET’S COMMIT OURSELVES TO GOOD STEWARDSHIP

Below are notes to a sermon preached Sunday morning, Feb. 28, 1999, at Gospel Light Baptist Church, Albany, Georgia:

LET’S COMMIT OURSELVES TO GOOD STEWARDSHIP
By Michael D. O’Neal……Pastor, Gospel Light Baptist Church……Albany, Georgia

Scripture Reading: 1 Cor. 4:1-5

Text: 1 Corinthians 4:2

1 Corinthians 4:2 Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

Introduction: A steward is a servant. More specifically, a steward is a servant with an amount of responsibility given to him to manage the goods of his master. Abraham’s eldest servant ruled over all that he had.

Every child of God is a steward. We are saved to serve. God has placed certain things in our care, which He wants us to manage for Him. We should be good stewards of:
* TIME
* TALENT
* TREASURE
* TRUTH

I. LET US FIND OUR RESPONSIBILITY

Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

A. We need to present our bodies to God
* Give him our brain and our brawn.

B. We need to progress in our heavenly walk
* Not conformed to the world, but transformed by the word of God.

C. We need to prove the will of God – the G.A.P.
* God’s will is good
* God’s will is acceptable
* God’s will is perfect

II. LET US FOCUS ON OUR RESPONSIBILITY

A. Let us love that responsibility
* What a PRIVILEGE it is to do something for the Lord!

B. Let us learn about that responsibility
* Follow those who have a similar task
* Learn from them.

C. Let us live for that responsibility
* Only one life, ’twill soon be past; only what’s done for Christ will last.
* Additionally, we need to be sure that we are doing the exact task God has for us.
* It would be a shame to waste one’s whole life, living out of the will of God.

III. LET US BE FAITHFUL TO THAT RESPONSIBILITY

1 Corinthians 4:2 Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

A. Let us be ready

B. Let us be regular

C. Let us be reliable

Luke 16:1-2 And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods. 2 And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward.

CONCLUSION: No one goes to heaven because he is a good steward and lives for God. Salvation is by grace through faith in Christ’s sacrifice for us on the cross, not by our works.

However, every child of God should concentrate on being a good steward for the Lord Jesus Christ. Will you do that today?
