The Abomination Of Abortion

Below are notes to a sermon preached Sunday evening, Sep. 17, 2000, at Gospel Light Baptist Church, Albany, Georgia.

By Michael D. O’Neal                   Pastor, Gospel Light Baptist Church                   Albany, Georgia

Scripture Reading: Psalms 106:34-41

Text: Psalms 106:38

Psalms 106:38 And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood.

Introduction: One of the horrible sins committed by Israel was the sacrifice of their children to idols. According to tradition, the means by which this was done was to build idols with a trap door in the front and a blazing fire within. The door would be opened and the adults would actually throw their children into the flames as an offering to a false god.

You and I recoil at the thought of such an atrocity. Yet, mothers and fathers in America are murdering their babies at the rate of 1.5 million per year!

Let me introduce the message tonight by reminding you of the methods that we Americans are killing our babies on a daily basis:

Abortion Techniques Described

From a compilation of works by W.Colliton MD, Dr. J. Willke, Dr. B. Nathanson
and Planned Parenthood.
The abortionist inserts a hollow plastic tube into the dilated uterus. “This tube is attached to a suction machine. The suction machine is turned on. The uterus is emptied by suction.” * The suction tears the baby’s body as he/she is being pulled through the hose. *Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc. Abortion: Questions and Answers August 1991.

Dilitation and curettage (D and C)
After dilitation of the cervix, a ring forceps is inserted into the womb and the baby is extracted in pieces. Then the abortionist inserts a curette, “a rod shaped instrument with a sharp edged spoon on the end”*, into the uterus to scrape the after-birth (placenta) from the wall of the womb and confirm that the womb is empty. Bleeding is usually profuse. * Planned Parenthood of New York City, Inc. Abortion, A Woman’s Guide Pocket Book Press 1973.

Dilitation and evacuation (D and E):
Used after 12 weeks. The baby is close to a pound and too large to fit through the cervix. The baby “must be removed with instruments and suction curettage.”* A pliers-like instrument is needed because the baby’s bones are calcified, as is the skull. The abortionist inserts the instrument into the uterus, seizes a leg or other part of the body and, with a twisting motion, tears it from the baby’s body. The spine must be snapped and the skull crushed in order to remove them from the womb. Body parts are then reassembled and counted to make certain that the entire baby has been removed from the womb. *Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc. Abortion: Questions and Answers, August 1991.

Saline injection:(“Salting Out”*)
This is used after 16 weeks. A long needle is inserted through the mother’s abdomen into the baby’s sac. Some fluid is removed and a strong salt solution is injected. The solution is swallowed and “breathed” and slowly poisons the baby. He/she kicks and jerks violently as he/she is literally being burned alive. “The uterus begins to contract, as in labor. The contractions continue until it pushes out the fetal and placental material”* PP of NYC, Inc. Abortion, A Woman’s Guide Pocket Book Press 1973.

Used mainly in the last three months of pregnancy, the womb is entered by surgery, as in a caesarean section. An incision is made through the abdomen. “The fetus and placenta are removed, and the incision is closed with stitches.”* The tiny baby is allowed to die by neglect or direct act. *Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc. Abortion: Questions and Answers August 1991.

Prostaglandin Chemical Abortion
This form of abortion uses chemicals, developed by the Upjohn Pharmaceutical Co., which cause the uterus to contract intensely, pushing out the developing baby. In one article, one of the complications listed with this method was “live birth.” In fact, the two most “dreaded” complications for an abortionist are a dead mother or a live baby.

Dilitation and Extraction (D and X – Partial-Birth Abortion)
At a September 13-14, 1992 meeting of the National Abortion Federation, a trade association of abortion providers, an Ohio abortionist, Dr. Martin Haskell, described the D&X; technique he has perfected. With the D & X method the preborn baby is alive until the end of the procedure when the child is killed by suctioning the brain tissue through a hole at the base of the skull while the baby’s head is still inside the uterus. Then the intact aborted child, minus brain content, is removed. The late Dr. James McMahon, a former abortion colleague of Dr. Haskell’s, admitted that he used this D&X; technique to abort preborn children up to 32 weeks “or more.”
After three days of preparations, the abortionist places an ultrasound transducer on the mother’s abdomen and locates the child’s legs and feet. The abortionist then uses a large forceps to grasp one of the baby’s legs. He pulls firmly, forcing the child into a feet-down position. He continues pulling until the baby’s leg is drawn into the birth canal.
Next, using his hands instead of forceps, the abortionist delivers the baby’s body in a manner similar to a breech birth. First, the child’s other leg is delivered, followed by the torso, shoulders, and arms. The baby’s head “usually” remains inside the uterus.
The abortionist then performs the last step which Dr. Haskell calls “fetal skull decompression.” Using blunt-tipped surgical scissors in a closed position, he pierces the child’s head at the base of the skull. He then forces the scissors open to enlarge the skull opening. The abortionist then inserts a suction catheter into the brain and vacuums out the child’s brain tissue (in Dr. Haskell’s words, “evacuates the skull contents”) causing the baby’s death.. The skull collapses and the dead baby is removed.
Barbara Radford, Executive Director of the National Abortion Federation said of this abortion technique, in a 6/18/93 letter to NAF members, “Don’t apologize: this is a legal abortion procedure.”
(The authenticity of the preceding information has been confirmed in an article in the American Medical Association’s Newsletter, American Medical News, in the July 5, 1993 edition).

I know that some of you are shocked to hear this from the pulpit, but we NEED to be shocked! I WANT to alarm you! I don’t want to be pornographic, but I do want to be very GRAPHIC in reminding us of the awfulness of this crime against God and man.

Exodus 20:13 Thou shalt not kill.

Matthew 19:18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,

Luke 1:44 For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.

A. The evidence of scripture proclaims that a “fetus” is a baby!

  • Luke 1:41 And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:

B. The examination by sight proclaims that a “fetus” is a baby

  • I have color photographs of babies who have been aborted. You can see their eyes, mouths, fingers, and toes.

C. The experiments of science proclaim that a “fetus” is a baby

  • Witness the video, “The Silent Scream,” in which you can see an unborn infant screaming in pain.

What would you suggest in the following situation?

A women has tuberculosis, and the father has syphilis.
Together they had four children.
* Their first child was born blind…
* The second child was stillborn…
* The third child was deaf & dumb…
* and their fourth was born with tuberculosis.
They’re now pregnant with their fifth child.
Would you recommend that they abort this child?

If you did, you would have killed Beethoven.

Every baby won’t grow up to be as famous as Beethoven, but doesn’t every human deserve the chance to make the most of life?

Proverbs 6:16-17 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

Psalms 106:38 And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood.

The word, “abomination,” means loathsome and disgusting.

A. Abortion is unnatural

  • The Bible says that one characteristic of “perilous times” of the last days is that men would be without natural affection.
  • I know from Romans 1 that the expression is a description of sodomites. However, God has put a natural affection in mothers for their babies.

B. Abortion is unappealing

  • It is a horrible procedure.
  • It is not the same as getting a tumor removed or a wart removed.
  • It is the taking of human life!
  • Some of you would get nauseated if you could look at some of the photographs I have of the handiwork of baby-killing abortionists.

C. Abortion is ungodly

  • God hates it, according to Prov. 6:16-17.

Numbers 35:33 So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.

A. It is defiling our homes

B. It is defiling our heads

  • Our minds are being corrupted by a continual practicing and endorsing of sin!

C. It is defiling our hearts

  • I hear pastors reminiscing about how that people in America were more receptive to the gospel and the things of God in the late 60s and early 70s. Wasn’t that before abortion became legal?

The thoughts of an unborn child:

Mommy keep me safe,
Mommy keep me warm,
Handle me with all your love,
Mommy keep me from harm.
I’m only six weeks old today,
This birthday gift to me,
A pair of bright blue eyes,
That someday you will see.
I’ve barely got ears,
A little puppy nose,
and at the end of my feet,
Little things called toes.
Looking forward to my life,
toys, teddy bears, snails,
and long fairy tales.
Where are we going mommy,
in a bath, on a bus ride or,
perhaps far away.
Where are we going being pushed at all force.
How funny it feels passing through doors,
people dressed in green,
if they hurt you, mommy, just scream.
What’s happening mommy?
I’m starting to cry,
Mommy, come quickly,
they’re making me die,
Killing me quickly,
Pulling me apart,
everything inside of me
even my heart,
Bye, mommy, good-bye
But how I wanted to see
the grass, the trees,
hear a sweet song,
feel a sweet breeze.

Bye mommy
I love You
I really do
I just wish you could love me too.
