Below are notes to a sermon preached Sunday morning, Mar. 4, 2001, at Gospel Light Baptist Church, Albany, Georgia.

THREE ALLS OF THE GREAT COMMISSION

By Michael D. O’Neal                    Pastor, Gospel Light Baptist Church                    Albany, Georgia

Scripture Reading: Matthew 28:12-20

Text: Matthew 28:19

Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Introduction: I’m glad that some things in the Bible are simple enough for someone like me to understand. For instance, I understand the word, “all.” I may have trouble with some words in the Bible, but I can understand that word. All means ALL.

I think of the ALL OF SIN.

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

But I thank God for the all of salvation:

1 Timothy 2:5-6 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

I want you to look with me today at the word, “all,” in our scripture reading today, as I bring a message called, “Three Alls of the Great Commission.”

I. ALL POWER – THE FORCE IN SOUL-WINNING

Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

GOD PROVIDES POWER … ALL POWER

A. To bring courage to the soul-winner

  • 1. Look at the change in Peter after the Holy Ghost came.
  • 2. We have ALL power to be witnesses for our Lord!
  • 3. We have ALL power for fruit-bearing!

B. To bring conviction to the heart of the sinner

  • 1. John 16:8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
  • 2. We have ALL power for people to see their need of the Savior – the power of the Holy Ghost!

C. To bring conversion to the believer

  • 1. A supernatural work is done in the heart of a person who trusts Christ.
  • 2. He is born again!

II. ALL NATIONS – THE FIELD IN SOUL-WINNING

Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

A. We should start at home

  • 1. Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
  • 2. In our own homes – families
  • 3. In our communities — visiting in the homes of people

B. We should spread out as far as we can

  • 1. Neighboring cities and counties
  • 2. Telephone
  • 3. Internet – email
  • 4. Bus ministry

C. We should support missionaries who will go where you and I cannot

  • 1. Offerings above and beyond our tithes support our missionaries

III. ALL THINGS – THE FOLLOW-UP IN SOUL-WINNING

Matthew 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

We need to teach our new converts about

A. Basic discipleship

  • 1. Bible reading
  • 2. Prayer
  • 3. Soul-winning
  • 4. Faithful church attendance
  • 5. Tithes and offerings

B. Bible doctrines

  • 1. The milk of the word of God first.
  • 2. The basic precepts of scripture.

C. Battling the devil

  • 1. Over doubt
  • 2. Over distraction
  • 3. Over discouragement
  • 4. Over delay – delaying baptism, joining the church, etc.
