Below are notes to a sermon preached Sunday morning, Mar. 10, 2002, at Gospel Light Baptist Church, Albany, Georgia.

ASK GOD, FOR HE IS ABLE

By Michael D. O’Neal                      Pastor, Gospel Light Baptist Church                      Albany, Georgia

Scripture Reading: Romans 11:11-25

Text: Romans 11:23

Romans 11:23 And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again.

Introduction: Israel rejected the Lord Jesus Christ when He came to this earth. As a result, we find a gradual turning of God, in the book of Acts, from the Jews to the Gentiles. Although the church of the Lord, His body, is a Jew-Gentile body, it is primarily Gentile today. The Jews are partly blinded for the time. However, the Bible says that God is able to restore them to their position of blessing. I want us to look at three words in our text verse: GOD IS ABLE.

Beloved, if we need a revival in any area, it is the area of PRAYER. Prayer is very closely associated with faith. One of the main reasons why we don’t pray as we should is that we don’t TRUST God as we should.

I want to encourage you today to PRAY, because GOD IS ABLE. He is able to HEAR! He is able to ANSWER! He is able to DO!

I. GOD IS ABLE TO STIR UP YOUR CHURCH IN REVIVAL, SO ASK HIM TO DO IT!

Psalms 85:6 Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?

A. As the requirements are met

B. As the requests are made

II. GOD IS ABLE TO SAVE YOUR CLOSE FRIENDS AND LOVED ONES, SO ASK HIM TO DO IT!

Romans 10:1 Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.

A. Pray for conviction

B. Pray for circumstances

  • Whatever it takes!

C. Pray for a contact

  • A worker
  • Yourself
  • An open door

III. GOD IS ABLE TO SUPPLY YOUR CONCERNS AND NEEDS, SO ASK HIM TO DO IT!

2 Corinthians 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

Deuteronomy 8:18 But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.

Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

A. Believe God for finances

B. Behave with those finances

  • Tithe
  • Give toward others
  • Don’t covet

IV. GOD IS ABLE TO SANCTIFY YOU FROM CARNALITY AND WORLDLINESS, SO ASK HIM TO DO IT!

John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

A. Ask Him to clean your heart

B. Ask Him to clean your hands

C. Ask Him to clean your habits

V. GOD IS ABLE TO SHOW YOUR COURSE FOR THE FUTURE, SO ASK HIM TO DO IT!

Psalms 147:5 Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.

A. He will use the Spirit of God

  • Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

B. He will use the scriptures

C. He will use the shepherd

  • “Pastor” means shepherd

VI. GOD IS ABLE TO STRENGTHEN YOU FOR CONQUEST, SO ASK HIM TO DO IT!

2 Chronicles 14:11 And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.

Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

Through GOD’S power:

A. You can conquer the devil

B. You can conquer discouragement

C. You can conquer difficulties

VII. GOD IS ABLE TO STABILIZE YOUR CHARACTER IN SERVICE, SO ASK HIM TO DO IT!

Romans 14:4 Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.

A. He can prevent you from falling

  • Not every preacher has fallen!
  • Not every convert has quit!

B. He can pick you up if you fall

  • And send you again!
  • Look at Jonah’s second chance!
  • Look at Peter’s second chance!

Conclusion: The invitation:

Ephesians 3:20-21 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, 21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

Jeremiah 33:3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
