You Can Be A Star

Below are notes to a sermon preached Sunday morning, October 12, 2003, at Gospel Light Baptist Church, Albany, Georgia.

YOU CAN BE A STAR

Scripture Reading: Daniel 12:1-4

Text: Daniel 12:3

Daniel 12:3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

Introduction: There are all kinds of stars in this world. There are the stars we see in heaven, of course. But there are also music stars, sports stars, movie stars, and television stars.

Stars rise and fall. Likewise, many of the prominent figures of today may be unknown in 50 years.

People want to be remembered, but the truth is that even the most popular people today may be relatively unknown in a short while.

Our text says, however, that SOME people shall shine “as the stars for ever and ever.” Who are they? They are SOUL-WINNERS!

As a young person I had both country-western and rock music influences in my life. A country-western singer used to sing, “I’ll be you I’m gonna be a big star, someday, you can never tell … ’cause I can play the part so well … all I gotta do is act naturally.”

A lot of people want to be a star. I’m going to tell you how to be a big star but you have to act, not NATURALLY, but SUPERnaturally!

YOU CAN BE A STAR

I. YOU CAN BE A STAR SENT BY GOD

Psalms 147:4 He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.

Judges 5:20 They fought from heaven; the stars in their courses fought against Sisera.

Genesis 1:16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.

We are in the night time, dispensationally. When Jesus left, the light of the world, the sun, left.

A. Soul-winners are sent on a mission

B. Soul-winners are sent with a message
  1. Stars and angels are closely connected in the Bible. Angels are even called stars in Revelation.
  2. One of the duties of angels is to deliver a MESSAGE.
  3. Our message is the GOSPEL of 1 Corinthians 15:1-4

II. YOU CAN BE A STAR SHINING IN A DARK WORLD

Philippians 2:15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

A. We shine today
  1. In witnessing
  2. In working
Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

B. We shine tomorrow
  1. In the reign of Christ
Matthew 13:43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
  2. In the resurrection body – 1 Corinthians 15

III. YOU CAN BE A STAR SENDING PEOPLE TO THE SAVIOR

Matthew 2:9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.

A. You belong to Him
  1. Matthew 2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
  2. Note the words, “his star”
  3. We are ambassadors for Christ
  4. He is our Lord, our master, our owner

B. You can bring people to Him
  1. Matthew 2:9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
