GOVERNOR JOSEPH AND GOVERNOR JESUS

Scripture Reading: Genesis 42:1-6, 45:23-28

Text: Genesis 45:26

Genesis 45:26 And told him, saying, Joseph is yet alive, and he is governor over all the land of Egypt. And Jacob’s heart fainted, for he believed them not.

Introduction: “Governor over all the land of Egypt.” Amazing and wonderful were the events that led to this position for Joseph! Yet, not only were they amazing in the life of Joseph, but they were also supernaturally allowed to occur and to be recorded by God Almighty, who moved in the affairs of men in the Old Testament and who also recorded these incidents in such a way that they foreshadow the Lord Jesus Christ.

Remember that Jesus said:

John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

Jesus was referring to Genesis, not the epistles of Paul (which had not yet even been written), for He said further in the chapter

John 5:46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me.

Jesus said that Moses wrote of Him. Later, after His resurrection, He talked to two disciples …

Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

Tonight as we look at the real, accurate, historical record of the man who became governor of all of Egypt, I want you to look for a portrait of the One about whom the entire Bible is written, the Lord Jesus Christ, keeping in mind that He ALSO was born to be “Governor” —

Matthew 2:6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.

I remind you that the Bible teaches that in the future there will be

1. THE RAPTURE – The return of Jesus in the air to catch up those who are saved. This will be followed by
2. THE TRIBULATION – A seven-year period of trouble and judgment, AFTER the saved people have left, which will be followed by
3. THE REVELATION – The coming of Christ to the earth to establish His rule of righteousness upon the earth for 1,000 years.

Genesis 45:26 And told him, saying, Joseph is yet alive, and he is governor over all the land of Egypt. And Jacob’s heart fainted, for he believed them not.

Tonight’s message is titled:

GOVERNOR JOSEPH AND GOVERNOR JESUS

I. THE PROMISES OF THE GOVERNOR

I am not referring to promises BY the Governor but OF Him, that is, of His coming to power.

Matthew 2:6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.

A. His tribe was promised – Judah(Genesis 49:10)

B. His territory was promised – Bethlehem (Micah 5:2)

C. His throne was promised – Jerusalem (Isaiah 9:6-7)

II. THE PEACE OF THE GOVERNOR

Isaiah 9:6-7 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

There shall be

A. Peace in the streets

B. Peace on the seas

C. Peace in the skies

D. Peace in society

Aren’t you glad that you don’t have to wait until He returns to have peace in your SOUL? Amen!

III. THE PROVISION OF THE GOVERNOR

Psalms 22:28 For the kingdom is the LORD’S: and he is the governor among the nations.

1 Kings 10:7 Howbeit I believed not the words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the half was not told me: thy wisdom and prosperity exceedeth the fame which I heard.

Haggai 2:8 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts.

A. He will provide finances

B. He will provide food

C. He will provide FINERY

IV. THE PURITY OF THE GOVERNOR

Psalms 67:4 O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth. Selah.

Revelation 2:27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.

Revelation 19:20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

A. The scriptures will be back in the courthouse

  • Liquor will be illegal and banned
  •

  • Ditto for abortion, gambling, lotteries, drugs, etc.

B. Satan will be in the pit

C. Sinful pleasure will be replaced by service pleasure to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!
