Below are notes to a sermon preached Sunday morning and evening, May 09, 2004, at Gospel Light Baptist Church, Albany, Georgia. 

M.A.D. – MOTHERS AGAINST THE DEVIL
(Preached on Mother’s Day, 2004)

Scripture Reading: Genesis 3:1-13

Text: Genesis 3:13

Genesis 3:13 And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

Introduction: Ladies, I want to encourage you on this Mother’s Day to be M.A.D. I’m not talking about being angry. I’m talking about a group I’m officially organizing this morning called “Mothers Against the Devil.”

As you know, PREPARE FOR WAR IN 2004! is our motto for the year.

I would like to encourage you mothers to be a part of the battle for the cause of Christ.

The devil wants to destroy the home, and one of the ways to do that is to destroy the sacred office of motherhood.

The devil deceived the woman in the garden, and the human race was affected for all time and eternity. He is your biggest enemy, ladies. He wants to destroy you, your marriage, and your children. He wants to destroy your purity, your productivity, and your piece of mind.

Don’t let Satan deceive you!
Don’t let Satan defeat you!

Join M.A.D. today! Mothers Against the Devil!

There are two requirements to join:
1. You must already be saved. Otherwise you are on Satan’s side and in his clutches, even if you don’t know it.
2. You must have a real desire to let God rule your life rather than Satan OR YOURSELF!

If you want to thwart Satan, here are some scriptural tips:

I. DEDICATE YOURSELF TO THE LORD

Ephesians 5:22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

Matthew 22:37-38 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment.

A. He is your Savior – saving you from the devil

B. He is your sovereign – don’t betray Him to the devil

C. He is your shepherd – follow His leadership to safety from the devil in your daily life

II. DEVOTE YOURSELF TO YOUR HUSBAND

1 Peter 3:1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;

1 Peter 3:5-6 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: 6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.

A. Reverence him (Eph. 5:33), especially before your children and the world

B. Raise his children for God
     1. Be a MOTHER!

C. Represent him well in society
     1. You are the mother of his children
     2. You should not be ashamed of that
     3. Don’t try to appear to be a single, available woman. LOOK and behave like the mother of your husband’s children!

III. DEVELOP A RIGHT SPIRIT

1 Peter 3:3-4 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; 4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

The devil is thwarted when a mother has a

A. Hushed and quiet spirit

B. Humble and meek spirit

C. Holy and devout spirit

D. Happy and contented spirit

IV. DRESS LIKE A GODLY MOTHER

Deuteronomy 22:5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.

1 Timothy 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

A mother should not look like a whore (Proverbs 7:10 – the attire of an harlot).

A mother’s attire should show forth:

A. Femininity (Deuteronomy 22:5)

B. Faithfulness to her husband and children

C. The fear of God

V. DETERMINE TO BUILD YOUR HOUSE

Proverbs 14:1 Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.

Notice “her HANDS”

Proverbs 31:13 She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.

You can build your house with your hands

A. By cleanliness and order

B. By creation of income

C. By correction of the children

D. By communicating God’s truth to the children (with an open Bible in your hands)

VI. DARE TO BE DIFFERENT FROM THE WORLD

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

A. Have different beliefs

B. Have different behavior

C. You will have different blessings, or results!

VII. DEPEND ON THE LORD FOR STRENGTH

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

A. Strength to support your husband and raise up your children

B. Strength to serve God in a local church

C. Strength to stand against the world, the flesh, and the devil
