THE HOLY ONE

By Michael D. O’Neal                   Pastor, Gospel Light Baptist Church                    Albany, Georgia

Scripture Reading: Acts 2:25-31

Text: Acts 2:27

Acts 2:27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

Introduction: In our text, the Lord Jesus Christ is referred to as God the Father’s “Holy One.”

When the angel announced to Mary that she would give birth to the Son of God, he referred to the holiness of Christ:

Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

One of God’s attributes is HOLINESS.
Therefore, one of Jesus’ attributes is HOLINESS, for He is God.
Jesus never sinned. Everything about Him is holy. Everything in Him is holy. Everything from Him is holy.

Tonight I want you to exalt the Lord Jesus Christ with me in recognizing His holiness.

I. HIS SCRIPTURES ARE HOLY

2 Timothy 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

A. The reason they are holy:
1. They are the LORD’S scriptures
2. The Bible is GOD’S word, not man’s; GOD’S book, GOD’S promises, GOD’S law, GOD’S commandments, GOD’S
wisdom, GOD’S light, and GOD’S precepts

B. The response to their holiness
1. We acknowledge their purity
2. We acknowledge their priority

C. The reward of this attitude
1. If you believe they are holy, God will bless them in your daily life.
2. If you don’t believe they are holy, you won’t be able to claim or prove God’s promises in your daily life.

II. HIS SPIRIT IS HOLY

1 Thessalonians 4:7-8 For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness. 8 He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit.

A. The reason it is holy
1. It is HIS Holy Spirit
2. It is GOD’S Spirit
3. IT is a HE, and HE is the LORD, and the Lord is HOLY!

B. The response to its holiness
1. We follow His leadership
2. We humble ourselves under His conviction

C. The reward of this attitude
1. Believing the Holy Spirit is HOLY, you will find God’s will, feel God’s presence, and be filled with God’s power.
2. If you forget that God’s Spirit is holy, you will flounder about in a wilderness, be unsure of God’s presence, and be absent of God’s power.

III. HIS SERVANT IS HOLY

In Shunem there lived a great woman during the days of the prophet Elisha …

2 Kings 4:9 And she said unto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is an holy man of God, which passeth by us continually.

A. The reason he is holy
1. He has a holy Master
2. He has a holy message
3. He has a holy mission

B. The response to his holiness
1. The salutation you give him
2. The submission you give him
3. The support you give him

C. The reward of this attitude
1. His happiness
2. Your happiness
3. The happiness of your children
4. The blessings of God

IV. HIS SANCTUARY IS HOLY

1 Corinthians 11:22 What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not.

A. The reason it is holy
1. It is GOD’S house
2. It contains GOD’S people, GOD’S man, GOD’S book, GOD’S working, GOD’S praises, and more!

B. The response to its holiness
1. Your attendance (Hebrews 10:25)
2. Your attention
3. Your apparel

C. The reward of this attitude
1. God speaks to you
2. Your children follow your example

V. HIS SAINTS ARE HOLY

Isaiah 62:12 And they shall call them, The holy people, The redeemed of the LORD: and thou shalt be called, Sought out, A city not forsaken.

A. The reason they are holy
1. They are children of a holy God
2. They were bought with holy blood
3. They are all indwelt by the Holy Spirit

B. The response to this holiness
1. We talk differently than the lost
2. We dress differently
3. We have fun differently
4. We listen to different music
5. We read different literature

C. The reward of this attitude
1. Influence toward the lost
2. joy in the heart
3. The power of God in the life
4. Health and length of days on the earth
