Jesus Shall Deliver Thee Completely

Below are notes to a sermon preached Sunday evening, Feb. 26, 2006, at Gospel Light Baptist Church, Albany, Georgia. JESUS SHALL DELIVER THEE COMPLETELY

By Michael D. O’Neal
Pastor, Gospel Light Baptist Church
Albany, Georgia

Scripture Reading: Job 5:15-19

Text: Job 5:19

Job 5:19 He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee.

Introduction:

Tonight I want to use our text verse to point you to Jesus, as I remind you that He said that the Old Testament was about HIM:

John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

There is a prophetic application to Jesus’ deliverance of the Jewish remnant who endure to the end in the tribulation period. That is a time of trouble, characterized by seven, for it shall last seven years.

However, Jesus is OUR deliverer, and I want to use the verse to emphasize that.

Galatians 1:3-4 Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ, 4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:

2 Timothy 4:18 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Three stages of deliverance:

2 Corinthians 1:10 Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;

I’m talking to you tonight about COMPLETE deliverance. Look at our text: “He shall deliver thee… yea, in seven …” Seven is associated often in scripture with the theme of COMPLETION.

  I. AT CALVARY – WE HAVE BEEN DELIVERED FROM THE PENALTY OF SIN

Ephesians 2:8-10 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

     A. Saved by grace bestowed – V. 8

     B. Saved through a gift received (faith) – V. 9

     C. Saved unto good works – V. 10

II. IN CHASTISEMENT – WE ARE BEING DELIVERED FROM THE POWER OF SIN

1 Peter 4:1-2 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; 2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

Hebrews 12:5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:

Compare Heb. 12:5 with Job 5:17 in our scripture reading:

Job 5:17 Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty:

     A. Chastisement is punitive

     B. Chastisement is painful

     C. Chastisement is purposeful

     D. Chastisement is profitable

III. AT HIS COMING – WE SHALL BE DELIVERED FROM THE PRESENCE OF SIN

Romans 13:11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

     A. By a supernatural transportation – star trek

     B. By a supernatural transformation –  the redemption of the body (Rom. 8:23), the “adoption” to which every believer is predestinated (the believer is not adopted; he is BORN, and he is waiting for the adoption, according to Rom. 8:23)
        – Eph. 1:5; Rom. 8:23,29
        1. How to lose weight, break bad habits, etc., and it won’t even take 30 days!
