OUT OF THIS WORLD

Scripture Reading: John 17:1-8
Text: John 17:6
John 17:6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.
Introduction: Notice the words of our text, “out of the world.” At one time, if something was impressive, it was said to be “out of this world.”
Salvation is out of this world, praise God! It came from heaven!
The Savior is out of this world.
The scriptures are out of this world. The Bible is a heavenly Book, forever settled in heaven!
The saints have been called out of this world. There are a number of statements in this chapter that express the relationship of believers in this world to this world.
I. WE ARE SAVED OUT OF THIS WORLD
John 17:6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.
A. Saved from its darkness – 1 Pet. 2:9
B. Saved from its demands
C. Saved from its destruction
II. WE ARE SEPARATED FROM THIS WORLD
John 17:9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.
John 17:16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
A. By a spiritual birth
B. By a spiritual baptism – 1 Cor. 12:13
C. By a spiritual Book – Jn. 17:17
D. By spiritual behavior
III. WE ARE STILL IN THIS WORLD
John 17:11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
A. For a time
B. For a task
C. For a testimony
IV. WE STINK TO THIS WORLD
John 17:14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
A. Because of the Savior we praise
B. Because of the salvation we proclaim
C. Because of the scriptures we preach
V. WE ARE SHELTERED IN THIS WORLD
John 17:15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
A. From deception – Jn. 16:13
B. From defeat – Phil. 4:13
C. From discouragement – Rom. 8:28
VI. WE ARE SENT INTO THIS WORLD
John 17:18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
A. To warn
B. To witness
C. To work
D. To wait
VII. WE ARE TO BE SNATCHED AWAY FROM THIS WORLD
John 17:24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.
A. To a mountain – the Holy Mt. Zion
B. To a mansion – Jn. 14:1-3
C. To our Master – 1 Cor. 13:12
