THE COMING KINGDOM OF JESUS

Scripture Reading: Ps. 10:1-18

Text: Ps. 10:16

Psalms 10:16 The LORD is King for ever and ever: the heathen are perished out of his land.

Introduction: For a few years now I have been preaching through the Old Testament to show you that the 39 books written BEFORE the gospels also point to the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. I am justified in doing this, because Jesus said:

John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

This was a teaching method of the Lord Himself, as we find Him after His resurrection meeting with His disciples …

Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

Our text says THE LORD IS KING FOR EVER AND EVER.

That verse is a prophecy about a coming kingdom on this earth, over which our Savior will reign. The Bible teaches a literal, visible, 1000-year rule of Jesus on this earth. This psalm prophecies of that kingdom, and I want to briefly point out to you three aspects of the coming Kingdom of Jesus in this message.

I. THE REVENGE IN THE TRIBULATION

Psalms 10:15 Break thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man: seek out his wickedness till thou find none.

The next prophesied event of the Old Testament is the coming Day of the Lord. That begins with a time known in scripture as the time of Jacob’s trouble. It will be a terrible time of fiery trials, designed to prepare Israel to receive Jesus as her King.

    A. There will be a sudden disappearance
       1. We call this the pretribulation Rapture.
       2. It is described in 1 Thess. 4:13-18

    B. There will be strong delusion
       1. This is prophesied in 2 Thess. 2:8-12

    C. There will be sudden destruction
       1. 1 Thessalonians 5:3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
       2. The breaking of the arm of the wicked is a reference to Jesus dealing a blow to the antichrist.
       3. The antichrist is called “that wicked” in 2 Thess. 2:8, matching “the wicked and evil man” of V. 15 above.
       4. This blow will come from a sword:
       5. Zechariah 11:17 Woe to the idol shepherd that leaveth the flock! the sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye:his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened.
       6. The antichrist will recover from this deadly blow, but the sword of Jesus will        get Him one last time at the battle of Armageddon, at the Second Advent:
       7. Revelation 19:15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he     should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

II. THE RULER ON THE THRONE

Psalms 10:16 The LORD is King for ever and ever: the heathen are perished out of his land.

    A. Consider the person
       1. JESUS!
       2. He who was BORN to be King of the Jews!

    B. Consider the proclamation
       1. Read it in Rev. 11:15
       2. “All hail the power of Jesus’name, let angels prostrate fall. Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown HIM Lord of all!”

    C. Consider the permanence
       1. After the reign of Jesus for 1000 years is over, there will be a brief war, the devil will be cast into the bottomless pit, and everlasting righteousness will continue unbroken.

III. THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF THE TIME

Psalms 10:16-18 The LORD is King for ever and ever: the heathen are perished out of his land. 17 LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear: 18 To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress.

    A. This will be a joyful kingdom
       1. V. 17 – the DESIRE of the humble
       2. The Christmas hymn will become reality – “Joy to the world, the Lord is come. Let earth receive her king! Let every heart prepare Him room, and heaven and nature    sing!”

    B. This will be a just kingdom
       1. V. 18 – no more oppression by man for each other
       2. “He rules the world with truth and grace, and makes the nations prove, the glories of His righteousness and wonders of His love!”

    C. This will be the JESUS kingdom
       1. JESUS will rule the earth in person
       2. JESUS will rule the earth in power
       3. JESUS will rule the earth in purity
       4. JESUS will rule the earth in permanence

CONCLUSION: Jesus is going to rule this earth some day! But before that happens, there will be the “sudden disappearance” I referred to earlier, of those who are truly saved. When the Lord catches His children home at the Rapture, will you be one of those caught up, the saved, or will you be left behind?

If you are saved, let me recommend that you go ahead and let Jesus rule YOU NOW. Let Him control your choices, your home, your thoughts, your habits, your work, your vacation, your recreation, your dreams, and your future.

YIELD to Christ today. “You can only be blest, and have peace and sweet rest, as you yield Him your body and soul.”
